Location: Austin, TX I El Segundo, CA I Denver, CO
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Package: Competitive Salary + Stock Options + Benefits (health, dental, vision, life, retirement)

We are looking for an experienced Principal Power Electronics Engineer to take a leadership role in the development of advanced power electronics systems for space applications. This is a unique opportunity to design and optimize high-performance power solutions for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems.

The Opportunity
As part of a highly skilled engineering team, you will drive the design and development of power electronics from concept to deployment. Your work will focus on two primary areas:

  • Optimized point-of-load converters (1W to 50W) for RF and digital modules.
  • Standalone DC-DC converters (20W to 500W) for space and aerospace applications.

You will lead end-to-end development, including circuit design, power management, magnetics, system-level architecture, and stability analysis. As a principal engineer, you will also serve as a technical mentor, contribute to product roadmaps, and engage with customers and executives in design reviews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and test DC-DC converters, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solar power converters, switching and linear regulators, filters, and stability control.
  • Develop power system architectures, including power distribution and point-of-load regulators.
  • Perform worst-case circuit analysis, failure mode analysis, and reliability assessments.
  • Lead PCB layout and routing for power circuits using Altium and SPICE-based simulations.
  • Oversee manufacturing and qualification testing in collaboration with contract manufacturers.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
  • Present engineering design reviews to customers and company leadership.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (BS or MS).
  • Industry experience or university research experience in power electronics design, analysis, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience designing power electronics systems from concept to deployment.
  • Expertise in PCB layout, power circuit simulation (SPICE), and power integrity tools (Ansys, ADS).
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, electronic loads, and signal generators.
  • Strong understanding of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with space-grade electronics design, development, and qualification.
  • Knowledge of radiation effects and space environment considerations for power systems.
  • Understanding of high-reliability manufacturing processes for aerospace applications.

Eligibility
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents due to government space technology export regulations.
