Job Title: Optomechanical Engineer
Location: Harwell or Glasgow (Hybrid options available)

Our NewSpace client are seeking a talented Optomechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team working on the next generation of high-performance optical systems. Based in either Harwell or Glasgow, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering precision optomechanical assemblies for cutting-edge applications for Space.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Design and develop robust optomechanical systems from concept to production
• Collaborate with optical, mechanical, and systems engineers to optimize integration
• Perform tolerance analysis, thermal and structural simulations (FEA)
• Support the assembly, alignment, and testing of prototypes and final builds
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to documentation for manufacturing

The successful candidate will have:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field (Master’s or PhD a plus)
• Proven experience in optomechanical design and systems integration
• Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
• Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, COMSOL) and tolerance analysis
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Passion for precision engineering and innovation

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in spaceflight, optical payloads
• Knowledge of ISO standards for optics and mechanical components
• Hands-on experience with optical alignment or metrology
