About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Optical Systems Engineer with a strong background in laser and optical fibre technologies to join our client in Luxembourg.

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer with significant laboratory experience in the optical and electrical domains, passionate about advancing photonic laser communication technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Engineer and optimize optical systems, including lasers, optical fibres, and amplifiers, for advanced optical communication product.
  • Lab Operations: Utilize advanced laboratory equipment daily to design, develop, and test optical and electrical systems.
  • Amplifier Integration: Develop and implement optical fibre amplifiers (OFAs), erbium-doped fibre amplifiers (EDFAs), and air amplifiers for enhanced signal processing and amplification.
  • Photonic Laser Communication: Work on cutting-edge photonic laser communication systems, focusing on both ground-to-satellite and inter-satellite links.
  • Optical Modulators: Develop and test optical modulators and other high-precision photonic devices.
  • System Testing: Conduct rigorous testing, troubleshooting, and validation of optical and electrical systems to ensure performance in demanding space environments.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to meet the stringent technical and environmental requirements of the space industry.
  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including test reports, performance analyses, and system specifications.

Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Degree in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
  • Lab Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment, daily using complex optical and electrical equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, laser testing setups, and alignment tools.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Expertise in laser systems, optical fibres, and fibre amplifiers.
    • In-depth knowledge of photonic laser communications and optical modulator technologies.
    • Proficiency in testing and integrating optical amplifiers, including OFAs and EDFAs.
  • Space Knowledge: Familiarity with the challenges and requirements of space-grade systems is highly desirable.
  • Analytical Ability: Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative, practical solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
