Introduction

We are seeking a Flight Software Engineer to support the development, execution, and automation of satellite flight operations. This is a 12-month contract role, with the potential for extension, offering a remote work environment with some site visits in Canada.

The Opportunity

This role involves working on advanced satellite mission operations, focusing on automation, flight software integration, and operational execution. You will be responsible for developing and validating flight procedures, satellite operation manuals, and anomaly resolution processes, ensuring seamless LEO/MEO satellite operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct trade-off studies for satellite/constellation operations procedures.
  • Develop and oversee Spacecraft In-Orbit Operations Procedures, including execution and training.
  • Create Satellite Operation Manuals and test procedures, ensuring compliance with mission requirements.
  • Design and validate operations verification & validation matrices for commissioning, routine, and contingency operations.
  • Support In-Orbit Testing (IOT), anomaly resolution, and Failure Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR).
  • Work with satellite simulators and develop automation scripts for operational efficiency.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in satellite operations.
  • Experience with LEO/MEO satellite operations and automated satellite operations.
  • Strong understanding of space and ground segment design, flight software integration, and telemetry structures.
  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with STK (Systems Tool Kit).
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Windchill, or Jama.
  • Previous experience in constellation operations.
  • Knowledge of satellite simulation models and automated operations workflows.
