Salary: £45,000 – £68,000 + Pension + Benefits + Relocation Assistance

We’re seeking an exceptional Lead Stress Engineer to take a technical leadership role in structural analysis, failure mode analysis, and testing support for a cutting-edge launch vehicle program. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of the UK space industry.

The Opportunity
You’ll be part of an ambitious team focused on the development of high-performance launch systems, working on structures that push the boundaries of innovation. From propulsion to reusability, our client’s advancements in fuel technology and ultra-lightweight composite structures are setting new standards in sustainability, efficiency, and performance.

With significant funding secured and partnerships with prestigious space organizations, the company is set to become one of the first operational micro-launch firms in Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct, validate, and document structural analysis (hand calculations and FEA) for composite and metallic assemblies.
  • Collaborate closely with the design team to iterate concepts using a “design by analysis” approach.
  • Define and implement analysis and testing plans based on high-level requirements.
  • Provide hands-on support for hardware testing and structural validation.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Degree or higher in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in analyzing mass-efficient structures for space, aerospace, defense, or motorsport applications.
  • Proficiency in FEA tools (e.g., FEMAP, Nastran, Hypermesh, Optistruct).
  • Competency in CAD for geometry preparation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work under pressure across multiple workstreams.
  • Expertise in static testing and failure mode analysis.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with composite structural analysis, particularly in highly loaded joints (mechanical and adhesive).
  • Familiarity with linear and non-linear analysis methods (including thermo-elastic, buckling, modal, vibration analysis).
  • Knowledge of Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessels (COPVs) or composite pressure structures.
  • Understanding of aerospace standards (e.g., MIL-HDBK-5/17, ECSS-E-HB-32, NASA-STD-5001).
  • Experience in materials and structures testing and characterization.

Location

This role is based on site in Forres, Scotland. The location offers a unique mix of advanced engineering work alongside access to the stunning landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, making it ideal for anyone who enjoys outdoor pursuits like hiking, skiing, and cycling.

Eligibility

Applicants must be UK or European citizens or from MTCR signatory countries. Successful candidates may undergo a UK BPSS check, including a criminal record check.
